Defensive Tactics Workshops July 2023 Todd Group HQ

These workshops were made up of a full muster of serious exponents all looking to learn new skills and upskill in capabilities for their role duties or as part of their CQC training.

From services personnel through to Todd Group HQ exponents, proponents and instructors, all participants trained with a willingness to learn new tactics and skills with enthusiasm and commitment with careful attention to tradecraft training safety.

Their focus on controlled training practice with care to ensure training partners safety in relation to training partner’s flexibility and their executions level of training force applied were indicators of the individual’s maturity, responsibility and understanding of the skills and the capabilities of the skills.

These workshops conducted at an enabling level were basic introductory training not because of the instructed skills but because of the duration.

The training did not include baton training as per the picture of one of our symbols for defensive tactics training the above TSB45 a Todd Group designed dual handgrip expandable rotational device but the training did include primary unarmed means and methods of suspect/detainee handling including team formations applications.

The skills were predominantly primary tactical control restraint and defensive tactics skills with some specific situations roles and duties options including secondary/backup alternative or emergency skills.

Training also included contingency options based on common human responses to being apprehended, controlled, restrained, contained, positioned or moved.

Basic mechanical restraint device applications in both prone and hip hinge positions were given along with training in detainee movement manipulation and decentralisation.

The most important factor was all the skills being same system had commonality and were cohesive in both individual skills executions and in skills combination transition employments.

Being able to transition from one skill to another without losing control through same system cohesive commonality maximises capabilities to deal with changes in threat or situation or for specific role and duty employments.

We get regular enquiries for the provision of tactical control and restraint training and defensive tactics training, but finding available slots to conduct such training is difficult.

The requirement to run multiple workshops over short or long duration courses has proven a means to provide such initial training.

Todd Group HQ is the developers of the individual tactics and skills as well as the training programs and the holders of the doctrine.

This enables understudies to get the training from the source in not only the individual skills but all the important mental and physical components training essential to maximising safe and effective levels of objective achievement.

It is important that the exponents understand all aspects of defensive tactics/control restraint, including positional, range related, execution/employment of skills and transitions from one skill to another as well as contingency options to deal with detainee escape or assault.

Courses not only provide training in the specific delivered skill set, but also provide attendees with an insight into the specialist and diverse skill sets provided at Todd Group HQ. Many are surprised of the history and specialist training provided as well as the fully kitted role specific facilities.

They often state this is what they have been looking for and could not find elsewhere.

Many training workshops in specific courses attendees end up applying for our CQC intake inductions or intensive week-long courses of instruction as well as overseas exported intensive courses of instruction.

Just like with our founder the late SGM Harry Baldock we are a private specialist training organisation that recruits serious committed practical realists.

There is no part time status with us, this is our full time specialist professional commitment.

From these defensive tactics workshops, it is now on to an exported national weekend course at Kapiti then the final HQ intake induction for 2023 before the dual country specialist close personal protection course and the phase 3 specialist proponents annual international course in Thailand.
