Self-Minder Short Course November 2023

The self-minder course is one of our short courses for Todd Group members that provide them with basic tactics and skills to enhance their safety and security and the safety and security of those in their care and protection.

Not all members can undertake a specialist close personal protection course and the self-minder course provides them with an option to ensure they can add to their self-protection and close combat capabilities tactics and skills to keep themselves and their family friends or colleagues safer.

The realities of increases in violence that can strike at anytime and anywhere, including in peoples own homes, makes conducting the self-minder course for our members another capability that makes them more aware of threats and how to hard target themselves and those in their care, and as a last, no other resort option, combat or counter threats of violence against them and those close to them.

No one can expect help to be there immediately, or even at all, simply because the assaulters can strike without warning and when everything is in their favour in regards to sudden, surprise attacks that make the chances of immediate intervention or apprehension less likely.

The dark of night, isolated locations, and with law enforcement being stretched with the crime levels, are but some of the reasons our rank and file take our self-minder courses.

We are a small specialist training provider of our European military self-defence and close combat systems and cannot train the masses as we operate at capacity with courses/training schedules. So our focus is primarily to provide our exponents, proponents and instructors with such training.

The course is a Todd Group developed short course that provides basic level training in a range of anti and combat or counter actions for not only self-protection but also the protection of others in one’s care.

The package includes home and away from home safety and security, as well as tactics to make your home safer by identifying weaknesses in security and safety, and taking measures to eliminate identified risks and dangers.

The self-minder short course includes some of our specialist close personal protection skills to neutralise not only unarmed threats but also armed assaults.

Reading basic intruder signs to identify their whereabouts or following the signs to identify the intruders point of entry/exit is also included in this short course.

Breaches in home security methods of entering, searching and clearing the residence, along with keeping those close to you as safe as possible when going pedestrian are covered in both the day 1 lectures and with practical, hands-on training on day 2.

Just like with all our specialist training packages, they are regularly re-evaluated and updated to ensure the primary skills capabilities are the most current best and safest means and methods of threats neutralisation.

Conducting the course at Camp Todd provides everything we need to maximise training on course, ensuring the training is delivered as a continuous course and not scheduled lessons over weeks or even mounts.

The camp is fully resourced for close combat, close protection and self-protection training and is the only such private specialist trade-craft training facility in NZ.

Over the past 96 years we have developed our training packages to provide specific skills sets to neutralise wide ranging threat categories.

These programs and training packages include everything from CQB and CQC to MSD, Defensive tactics, DWAR (anti and counter predatory sexual violence), anti and counter bullying, disabled peoples self-protection, and children’s abduction prevention and counter measures.

This could only have been achieved by the most highly trained and qualified mil Master-Instructors using their trade-craft knowledge in fully committed, full time development and training roles with a dedication to provide their understudies with our safest and best possible practices.

This is not just a job or merely a hobby to us. This is a commitment to the people we train that is deadly serious to us.

The peers on the most recent self-minder course had a top training experience and enjoyed their course in camp.

They worked away over the two days with commitment to self-improvement and were planning their next courses attendance before this course had ended.
