Invercargill Introductory Training Day 21st February

Sunday, February 21st was an early start for Todd Group training team members and training exponents.

The training team bound for Invercargill included two Master Instructors accompanied by phase 1 and 2 exponents and phase 3 proponents.

Recruiting serious committed exponent’s introductory training is being rolled out around the regions during the border flight restrictions.

We are receiving comments and questions from applicants that have done their research and know the difference between military close combat delivered by a qualified military Master-Instructor and civilian self-defence.

Many have attended civilian training and quickly recognised it was far removed from military close combat with skills that would be impractical in battle dress and body armour on the battlefield.

Interestingly, many are doing their research of instructors lineage and especially instructor qualifications before applying or after attending training that was more fighting arts kicks and punches orientated and the instructor was not a ranked mil qualified CQC instructor.

It is pleasing to note the interest in leading instructors from World War II and how some serious enthusiasts are doing their homework about such experts.

It is the standalone lineage of the Todd Group received from leading allied mil Master and senior instructors from World War II and the next generation of military Master-Chief Instructors that attracts a lot of serious informed applicants.

The weekend Invercargill training was not only introductory but more importantly to show our commitment to a southland depot establishment in the near future.

Being able to conduct training at a satellite facility that provided both indoors and outdoors training accommodated all our training needs.

Since the death of our Invercargill based instructor some years back we have not conducted training there.

The courses we have been conducting around NZ attract not only serious civilian enthusiasts but also military and police former and current serving pers wanting to increase their capabilities and achieve qualifications and rank.

The weekend introductory training was to set the foundations for on-going Southland training and future establishment of designated training depots.

Stringent vetting and joining conditions are just the beginning when it comes to exponents, proponents and instructor’s standard operating procedures musts and codes of conduct contracts.

The mandatory training hours and demanding testing phases are what the Todd Group, formerly the Baldock Institute have made their reputation on.

Serious responsible new entry applicants with desires to achieve rank and become depot instructors in their location or on the Todd Group training team expect no less.

Recruiting those of interest in just the sound of CQC that are not willing and prepared to undertake what is required to achieve competency advancement, promotion and rank is not the best in future proofing senior ranks.

The Todd Group headquarters facility is responsible for the developing and caretaking of the doctrine and training packages as well as being a learning institution of military close combat and military self- defence that operates under an ethos of setting and maintaining the highest tradecraft standards. This is not a hobby or just a job to us; it is a commitment to excellence in ensuring we arm our people with our best capabilities. This is an important part of the reasons in regards to us attracting the highly committed and capable exponents that we have over the past 94 years.

From the rest come the best in regards to seeking and striving for military self- defence and military close combat high level competency and as such personal capabilities is very true.

The pathway to rank and qualification is strict and to the point and this is what serious exponents expect and the challenges they thrive under.

Being a development and learning institution involved in all aspects of our trade-craft equates to training fees that are extremely reasonable and that have not increased in several decades.

Students training at Todd Group HQ pay $90 per six months and all others pay $120 per six months.

They train not only at the oldest global private specialist training facility in European military elite close combat and military self- defence but receive their training directly from or under the command of a military elite Master-Chief instructor.

The Todd Group HQ is a custom set up set up designated military self- defence and close combat training facility. It is specific purpose fully equipped to best provide high-level training objective achievement outcomes. Combine this with Camp Todd and its multiple training areas that include varied terrain training as well as a range of training stands set ups obstacles and training courses layouts, exponents can experience mil CQC/MSD the military combative way. Exponents soon understand what true military close combat and military self- defence requires and entails.

Training team members are actively involved in all aspects of training provision ranging from external training observation through to assisting with tactics and skills development, equipment and training weapons design and development.

The training team members and exponents that attended the Invercargill introductory training were provided with an insight into how males and females of all sizes can achieve CQC skills competency.

Introductory training on Sunday in Invercargill included unarmed offensive assault and unarmed counter offensive assault, seizure grabs and holds prevention and escapes as well as disarming skills under armed assault and armed ambush.

All attendees committed to a full day of enthusiastic participation and I’m looking forward to upcoming return training and the establishment of training depots when local instructors complete mandatory training pass testing and instructor training qualifications.

Until then the serious committed exponents will attend Todd Group HQ conducted training as well as volunteer for the upcoming annual Australasian course at Camp Todd.

It is pleasing to report that the recruiting and vetting process is identifying the serious and committed from the rest.

The process not only identifies solid exponents but also those that are not considered suitable for training/course joining.

The nature of the training is a hands on reality check of just how mentally tough and prepared individuals are or are not and those that are not up to the challenge will self-eliminate.

Hobby and business plan orientated type civilian training provision simply doesn’t work for our military self- defence and military close combat where it comes down to the very best and most proven required tactics and skills and where exponents must be prepared for the physicality of close combat training and be of a mental makeup that is willing and prepared to complete tasks and undertake testing requirements under threat.

Todd Group HQ attendees at the weekend training in Invercargill very much enjoyed the opportunity to take the training on the road and meet new exponents.

We have secured a Southland training facility and identified a depot instructor with prior military and law enforcement service as well as prior Todd Group training that is committed to becoming an instructor.

Being the only training provider of European military elite close combat and self- defence in New Zealand is a unique status and comes with responsibilities in regards to setting the highest possible standards and ensuring all candidates under testing must surpass our high level testing regime levels of competency and capability.

This requires reaching out to the regions of New Zealand in order to identify those fraction of 1%ers that have what it takes to achieve high level competency and capabilities from all around the country.

Thank you to the Todd Group instructors, exponents and proponents that travelled south and assisted with this introductory training delivery.

We are now preparing for the upcoming Todd Group HQ intake inductions this week followed by the annual Australasian course at Camp Todd and Todd Group HQ.

We had our newly established training resources division working during the week and over the weekend making up a new training facility fit out for intake inductions and urban environment training exercises.

This new modular safety standards set up will provide a high level realism sudden shock actions training experience important to not only familiarisation with sudden aggressive shock actions on but also to competency achievement under assault by safe high repetition actions on exposure.

The reality is if you don’t have the required custom set up and fully kitted training facilities achieving best results is difficult and safety can be compromised.

The extensive nature of the Todd Group HQ and Camp Todd facilities is testament to our commitment and dedication to our trade-craft and the people we train.

Those that attend Todd Group HQ training get custom designed facilities fully kitted out with mil CQC purpose designed and manufactured equipment.

This includes safety BHE battle handling exercises mock ups that promote high intensity committed training.

They not only get their skills from the source but also have access to our full training resources manuals Pams/Aide-memoires.

The interest of applications in 2021 is high level and from the accepted exponents future phase 3 specialist proponents and Todd Group HQ and depot instructors will be identified trained tested proven and qualified.

Some are hobby enthusiasts or see training as a part time job while we have a fulltime commitment to being the very best military close combat and military self-defence instructors we can be and welcome quietly confident willing and committed lads and lasses to apply for upcoming courses or Todd Group HQ intake inductions.
