DWAR INSTRUCTOR TRAINING AND EXPONENTS WORKSHOP

Saturday, June 19 was the DWAR assistant instructor/instructor scheduled training conducted at Camp Todd followed by an exponent’s workshop at Todd Group HQ on Sunday, June 20.

We had a capacity attendance of more than 30 for this specialist workshop.

We were still receiving application enquiries the day before, the day of and since the workshop.

The history room was utilised for the anti-encounter lectures/theory component with every seat being taken and the adjoining training hall having to be opened to accommodate assistant instructors and instructors.

The Covid-19 borders lockdown has enabled us to conduct considerably more Todd Group HQ/Camp Todd and national regions exported courses of instruction.

This has led to increased interest and demand for available positions like with the weekend DWAR training provision.

We have designated instructors for specialist course training provision including the DWAR course and will be able to not only continue with new training provision including at new locations but also expand our Dunedin and New Zealand training provision.

The DWAR anti/counter and combat sexual violence threats training is a specialist Todd Group developed training package workshop/short through any other training provider as it is Todd Group IP.

This specialist training has been developed based on our European military self-defence and military close quarters combat tradecraft principles, practices, tactics and skills.

It is threat specific and threat neutralisation specific providing the underdog with the best and safest chances of expedient threat neutralisation by incapacitation.

The skills are based on the very best of dirty tricks brigade man stopper military self-defence means and methods developed specifically for predatory violence sexual offender incapacitation.

Often attendees on these workshops have previously undertaken female self-defence training.

We have over 90 years history in New Zealand as leaders in the field of military self-defence and military close quarters combat.

This is important to our members as they know they are getting their instruction from the headquarters source and their instructors are tradecraft qualified and provide the most current and proven Todd Group tactics and skills.

More and more training attendees are seeking the training because of the Todd Group lineage highly qualified Master-Instructors and because our training packages are based on our military elite close combat and military self-defence tactics and skills.

They understand the importance of getting their skills directly from the source in the HQ holders and developers of the doctrine where they get our most current and proven best and safest means of threat neutralisation training.

Many attendees end up at the Todd Group after trying out different civilian self-defence based styles.

This often applies on DWAR workshops, where many females have previously taken self-defence training while at school, university or through community based training.

It is the military self-defence and military close combat methods that they seek and find best for their self-protection needs.

Some have come to the conclusion that they simply could not out fight a much bigger violent sexual offender and that punching, kicking, grappling and wrestling as the underdog facing an over dog with bad intentions is far from the safest and best means of stopping them in their tracks.

There is a major difference in what most would consider effective self-defence techniques based on civilian styles and the best of foul/dirty/deadly trade craft mil close combat skills.

They find military methods completely different and being based on life or death battle proven dirty tricks brigade tactics and skills, the required level of physicality is considerably less and the chances of safely and effectively incapacitating an attacker is extremely high.

In training on DWAR workshops they have to take care not to injure their male training partners which are a very important indication of the proven effective incapacitation status of the DWAR skills.

They especially enjoy and benefit from being able to attend with a male training partner they feel comfortable to train with. Having such a training partner that has superior physical capabilities not only proves the effectiveness of tactics and skills but increases their confidence.

Male training partners have commented how their physical size and strength advantages were lost to the DWAR skills and how it pleased them to know their female folk were getting such effective instruction.

DWAR training with male enemy party promotes confidence by hands on objective achievement and many said after completing previous courses and trying their new techniques out with their male family members and friends the skills effectiveness were again proven when their men folk could not dominate them.

All DWAR instructors have to be exponents, proponents and instructors of Todd systems close quarters combat and military self-defence and must have passed at minimum of a phase 1 basic test and be an active phase 2 or phase 3 training member.

They must complete mandatory training hours. gruelling testing and then apply for DWAR assistant instructor/instructor training.

Setting and maintaining the highest possible standards and ensuring the skills provide the best and safest chances of stopping a predatory violent sexual offender in their tracks is what this specialist subject training is all about.

With an extensive depth of knowledge, hundreds and even thousands of hours of training experience and passing demanding and revealing testing phases, instructors have the skills and knowledge base as well as having hands on experience in threat neutralisation under testing. These are but some requirements of specialist subject DWAR instructors needed to qualify to volunteer for our DWAR assistant instructor/instructor training.

This is a very sensitive and serious threat category that requires the highest level of qualified expert Master – Chief instructor in the development, proving and adopting of tactics and skills and overseeing the delivery of such training provision.

Training alpha male military elite combatants is very different to the required skill sets to train a female underdog that requires skills to stop a sexual violence over dog in their tracks.

One must remember de-escalation conflict resolution is unlikely to achieve threat neutralisation when compromised without any chance of getting assistance or getting away and facing a predatory violence sexual offender with bad intentions.

Criminals don’t live by the law and if they determine their victim is trying to get them arrested or do them bodily harm they will most likely do them serious harm.

I can remember when training at the school of self-defense NY in the 1980s hearing the saying many times that dead witnesses don’t give evidence which equates to the need to have self-defence capabilities that will stop a dangerous attacker as you may only get one chance to do so.

The only thing that matters when there is no out option or anyone coming to your assistance is the proven effectiveness of your pre-learnt tactics and skills.

For this reason DWAR courses include both anti-encounter tactics to hard protect oneself by layers of protection and as a last resort best of dirty tricks brigade skills that are not dependent on gender physical attributes or extreme physicality.

Primary practices brain to boot military self-defence and military unarmed combat mental toughness enhancement tactics and skills are also included in the DWAR package as these are the most important aspects of effectively overcoming the effects of fear and stress under violent threats.

If a victim of violence cannot and does not know how to overcome the effects of facing violent threats their chances of safe and effective threat neutralisation are reduced by considerable.

All the skills amount to very little if the user does not have the inner resolve and intestinal fortitude required to do what must be done and this requires understanding how to reduce or eliminate the effects of fear in the face of violence.

The Todd Group have not only developed and own the IP for our specialist courses of instruction but also publish the continuation training manuals, including the DWAR manual that every attendee gets a copy of.

The post course comment and rating forms from the most recent DWAR workshop included some of the highest ratings and expressions of appreciation.

There have also been expressions of interest in joining upcoming courses including the upcoming mil CQC and mil self-defence intake induction for responsible civilians.

Some attendees attended to gain skills required for their professions and have requested the development of programs specific to their occupations for group training for themselves and their colleagues.

It is important that such specialist courses as the DWAR training are the most current proven and safest means of incapacitating the dangerous threat that a predatory sexual offender presents and this is what the DWAR training provides.

The male training partners are very important in providing realism and when they are part of their female folks training as enemy party and identify and comment on how effective the skills were to the point of them not being able to abduct or achieve the specific threat objective, this is how it should be.

This develops confidence and through ongoing practice enhances competency.

Our objective is to arm ladies with the best means of winning not merely surviving a sexual violence encounter.

This latest course had one member attending the instructor training from Australia joining the South island and North island members in attendance.

We will soon be releasing our children’s training package for safety, security at home and when out and about including counter abduction tactics and skills.

Courses before the years end include a specialist close personal protection two week long course of instruction, a weekend defensive tactics/tactical control restraint course and a week-long phase 1 basic course of instruction and testing phase at Camp Todd in November.

We also have upcoming courses in Christchurch, Kapiti and a week-long Auckland course in August; combine this with other scheduled provincial short courses and we have a capacity training calendar for the remainder of 2021.

Interestingly some ladies thought that our members training in mil CQC at Todd Group HQ were only males that were until they met female instructors at the DWAR workshop and as such we hope to see some of them on the August intake induction.
