CQC Milestone of Major Significance 1927-2017

The Todd Group, formerly the Baldock Institute, will celebrate our 90th anniversary reunion on 25 March 2017 at our camp near Dunedin Airport, New Zealand.

The annual Australasian CQB/CQC/MSD courses will be conducted for serious military and civilian exponents between March 19 and March 25.

This anniversary reunion is very special for many reasons, including the fact that the Todd Group, formerly the Baldock Institute being established in 1927 is the oldest private specialist training organisation of European military armed and unarmed combat and military self- defence to the military and civilian sectors.

While there are many fighting arts martial arts and combat sports, the Todd Group offers unique and specialist training packages unavailable elsewhere.

Celebrating our 90th anniversary reunion is very important with some of our most respected members and allies getting on in years.

Sadly, some of our most respected proponents of military unarmed combat have passed away in recent years.

The last living World War II military unarmed combat instructor from New Zealand or Australia, Blue Curran of Australia will be our guest of honour at the 90th reunion.

Respected Instructors of military close combat held in high regard, including US Special Forces SGM retired Lawrence Jordan and Australian Army former officer commanding unarmed combat Major John Whipp retired will also be in attendance.

There will be 10 members of the International close combat instructors Association that are all military close instructors with long records of military CQC training and instructing service that will be joining us to celebrate this very important milestone.

VIP guests along with former Todd Group members will join the Todd Group instructing team and current members on the week-long course of instruction, test phases and 90th reunion celebrations.

One or two decades flash by in training years quickly and really are only establishment periods, however 90 years and being the oldest training provider of our kind is truly very special.

Camp Todd has been undergoing some upgrades and maintenance to cope with the expected several hundred military close combat proponents and enthusiasts that will pass through the camp gates and doors of the old HQ facility.

Camp Todd with its World War II eight pers huts and CQC specific training equipment set in an open fields and Bush covered hills of over 200 acres is an excellent environment and facilities for CQC and MSD training.

Night training in the Bush and training in the CQC water way provide some different and interesting training experiences.

The Todd European military CQB/CQC and military self-defence training courses of instruction enable non-military exponents on course to live military close combat as close as civilians can to our military CQC

courses.

Being instructed by current and former high level military CQC instructors including some of the Master – Chief instructors from armed forces of their countries is a rare and special opportunity and privilege for participating exponents.

Rubbing shoulders with some of the most respected military CQC proponents from World War II to the present times adds to the very unique and special nature of the course and reunion.

Unfortunately, some members and allied instructors may not be around for the hundredth anniversary in 10 years’ time making this 90th reunion a final chance for them to share in the company of training mates.

There are many civilian styled self -defence options available to civilians but not many, if any other courses where instruction is by current leading military CQC Master Instructors with instructor qualification lineage from some of the highly respected WW11 leading allied instructors and some of the next generation of military instructors. Some Todd Group courses like the upcoming annual Australasian course are made up of military groups of CQC proponents and serious civilian exponents of CQC. We have combined the 90th anniversary with the annual Australasian courses of instruction so exponents and instructors can meet visiting military close combat VIPs and guests and so VIPs and guests can observe training and meet our rank and file.

For the serious enthusiast wanting to experience military combative training hands on and possibly volunteer for the phase testing challenge, what could be better and where else are they going to have so many current and former allied military CQC/CQB/MSD instructors on course.

The only way to achieve competency and confidence in military unarmed combat and military self- defence is by committed participation and this is the opportunity that is provided by attending the upcoming Australasian course and 90th reunion celebrations.

Staying on camp living CQC day and night training the military combative way brings out the best in exponents that are mentally tough practical realists that won’t settle for lesser training when it comes to their self-protection.

The course includes a chance to train at the old Todd Group HQ in Dunedin city and check out the history room where displays of memorabilia training equipment and weapons will be set up for the 90th reunion.

If you want to be the best combatant you can be and be trained in the most current and battle proven tactics and skills of the Todd systems of European military CQC/MSD, then you need to apply for course joining immediately to avoid missing out on the limited positions still left available . www.toddgroup.com

For those serious about CQC and MSD that cannot make our annual Australasian course of instruction and 90th reunion, we have an exported combined military and civilian course in Thailand at the Navy Base April 24-29.

What makes Todd Group courses special to the fraction of 1%ERS that train test and achieve rank is that they are training from the headquarters training staff with the backing of 90 years of development of doctrine and training packages and delivery of military CQC and MSD training behind us.

Todd Group phase 1 testing puts off many that are less than mentally tough from volunteering to be a tested candidate.

Those that do not have the intestinal fortitude and inner resolve to overcome their fears of failure or pain and injury often opt for easier options but this is not a consideration for those with the smarts that know there are no easy or soft options that can best prepare you to neutralise extreme violence.

Such an attitude and mentality is that of a defeatist before they have even participated or challenged their capabilities and what hope do they have in a real-life actions-on if required training and testing overwhelms them?

The reality is quietly confident individuals, male and female, that are practical realists that have the will power to accept personal challenges and not let per-determined fears or anticipation overwhelm them will achieve.

The phase 1 training package provides some training in tactics and skills that most practitioners and instructors of traditional fighting arts are not familiar with.

The phase 1 testing after a week-long intensive course of instruction or 100 hours of Todd Group HQ or Todd Group depots training is designed to identify the confident and competent and will weed out those that do not have enough mental toughness and skills competency.

It’s not for the masses but it is for the realist wanting to learn current and proven European military self-defence and military armed and unarmed combat as taught to even the military elite.

It doesn’t get any more real than battlefield and special purpose military close quarters combat and military self-defence where there are no rules and dirty and deadly CQC/MSD are primary trade craft practices.

The phase 1 test taken early in a candidates training is as much about, identifying those that have what it takes as it is about providing the best of combative training, for with mental toughness against formidable foes skills are dramatically capability reduced.

From the rest come the best and how true that is when it comes to individuals that are quietly confident and commit to the training requirements and the rigours of testing.

Military CQC and military MSD is very black-and-white when it comes to instructor’s qualifications and records of instructing service as well as exponents and candidates training and qualifying respectively.

In the Todd Group individuals that lay claim to being Todd systems trained without volunteering for phase testing and passing their test phases are nothing more than individuals that have not yet achieved.

Anyone who has not tested and qualified has not yet proven themselves.

There have been tens of thousands of Todd Group members over the decades and many we no longer have current contact details for. Any former members reading this brief wanting to attend the annual Australasian course or 90th reunion celebrations email us. [email protected]
