Annual Auckland Military CQC and Military Self-Defence Course for Civilian exponents 2020

After returning from the first course at our new international hub country facility in Thailand in March and having to bin the annual Australasian course at Camp Todd midcourse and with the border restrictions due to covid 19, we have started conducting more New Zealand based courses.

The recent weekend short course at camp Todd attracted 40 current and new entry exponents of which most of the new entry exponents will attend the upcoming final intake induction at Todd Group HQ for 2020.

August 3rd – 8th we conducted the annual Auckland week-long intensive course and test phase at Ludus Magnus School of training.

The Ludus Magnus name derives from a place where Roman gladiators would undertake gladiatorial training in ancient times and is a fitting place for conducting modern-day military unarmed combat and military self-defence training.

Mil CQC drills to command

Hard boots stamp kicking training

Confined space disarming training

The 2020 annual Auckland course produced not only some top training results but also proved three solid candidates capabilities.

The three candidates surpassed the required high testing standards with confidence and high level displays of skills competency.

The days on course went very quickly, conducting both phase 1 basic and phase 2 advanced courses of instruction simultaneously.

Phase 2 advanced high lift threats introduction

We were still receiving enquiries for the course after we had closed the course off to applications and had commenced conducting it.

These courses attract musters of quietly confident practical realists that want to learn our most current European military self-defence and military unarmed combat skills.

They are not as interested in traditional arts or sporting styles as they are in military close combat and military self-defence.

Week-long intensive courses of instruction provide the opportunity not only for intensive and extensive training the military combative way but also the delivering of tradecraft training lectures and video presentations.

Attendees get the chance to have their questions answered from the headquarters chief instructor source and appreciate this opportunity. Already attendees from this course have course confirmed for the two week long upcoming close personal protection course of instruction and other CQC courses we will be conducting in the regions next month.

We are hoping to be able to conduct three courses of instruction late November early December at our new international facility at Sattahip Thailand if the border restrictions are lifted and conditions are favourable.

If not we have requests for conducting training in New Zealand that will take us through until the end of the year.

On day five of the Auckland annual course the three volunteer phase testing candidates were separated from the phase 1 basic course of instruction and I personally spent the day preparing them for their day 6 testing, making any corrections and adjustments to their primary skills that were required.

These three lads required minimal corrections and adjustments because they were serious about the training and were committed to doing their very best under testing.

From military skills to command drills through the toughener and sickener training that included combat milling, coming back from the dead, POW MSD threat neutralisation and impaired senses threat neutralisation, these candidates drew on their CQC/MSD training with attention to objective achievement and confidence.

Phase 1 test candidates CQC drills to command

Blind threat neutralisation testing

They utilised their brain to boot military CQC/MSD mental toughness components combined with real time assessment decision-making and the employment of threat neutralisation/objective achievement strategies with quiet confidence.

The mil self-defence testing was of a very high standard and had been well drilled leading up to the testing phase.

The candidates were not fazed by a live blade and made the irregular unpredictable armed assaults disarming look like rehearsed choreography such were their competency levels.

The candidates seizure prevention and dirty tricks brigade holds and grabs escapes were precise and there left no doubt of the threat neutralisation achievement outcomes.

Seizure prevention testing

Dagger disarming testing

BHE machete disarming and ambush knife disarming

They by majority achieved the objective of threat neutralisation in 1-3 seconds which is an indicator of primary tradecraft practices understanding and achievement of the capabilities to effectively employ their primary tradecraft practices under duress.

CQC actions on testing

Ambush dagger disarming testing

Ambush long weapon disarming training

Ambush phase dagger disarming testing

This course of instruction also included two assistant instructors, one a phase 3 specialist proponent that was involved with phase 1 training to remain current and assist with instruction and a phase 2 advanced exponent that underwent assistant instructor and instructor training.

The three successful phase 1 testing candidates maintained a high standard throughout the test phase of highly controlled aggression in threat neutralisation objective achievement.

They were formidable enemy party for one another, executing their skills with deliberate action and controlled aggression at all times.

Their tactics and skills selection were fitting for rapid threat neutralisation and they conducted themselves inside our mil CQC Trade-craft training safety in testing conditions at all times.

I would like to congratulate the three successful candidates on passing their phase 1 test and all the phase 1 and two exponents and assistant instructors that attended this year’s annual Auckland course of instruction for their commitment to self-improvement and dedication to CQC/MSD.

Even before this year’s course ended we have received inquiries for the 2021 annual Auckland course and are preparing for the Todd Group HQ final intake induction next week.
