CQC Thailand Course May 2016

This course was a combined military pers and civilian exponents course.

These courses are small group and provide training in military self-defence, military CQC and defensive tactics for detainee handling.

Technique to command CQC drill

Phase 1 basic, Phase 2 advanced, and Phase 3 specialist courses of instruction were conducted simultaneously. Todd Group assistant instructors rack up instructing hours to both civilian and military groups on these courses. This is important for instructors to remain current and be considered for Todd Group contract instructing duties.

The aim of exporting such specialist courses is not to attract the masses but to the contrary to identify individuals that possess the right attributes to prove themselves and advance up the CQC ranks. Until a candidate has passed a phase 1 test they have not proven their mental and physical CQC capabilities.

Intensive residential courses of a week or more provide the opportunity to identify individual exponent’s strengths weakness individual traits and any character flaws. The nature of the training and the realities of staying together as a tight training group on course is very revealing. Exponents need to be quietly confident committed individuals that can also fit well into the group environment. They need to live and train together as equals to gain the respect of their fellow exponents and instructors. Their age, gender, and educational or professional status off course are irrelevant and they must fit in respecting the chain of command and their fellow exponents on course.

Being practical realists is most important not only for selecting skills that fit their psychological and physical make ups but also to ensure they know their competency levels and do not delude themselves by thinking they are better than they actually are.

Previous civilian self-defence, fighting arts or combat sports training, is not relevant to this military self-defence and military CQC course of instruction as military CQC tactics and skills are very different and the objectives and means of achieving objectives are very specific to roles and outcomes of no rules or concern for anything other than threat neutralisation.

Some individuals apply and withdraw prior to the course or are no shows because the reality hits home and the fear of the upcoming unknown defeats them before they leave home. Some withdraw for valid reasons but others for no other reason than they have heartilage problems.

The mind is a powerful tool in objective achievement and can also be devastating in regards to psychological self-destruction. Those that turn up on course showing a willingness to attend and participate regardless of their achievements and outcomes will gain in skills competency.

There is nowhere to hide on a CQC course or test phase which makes every strength and weakness apparent to instructors and exponents. The reality is if you are a practical realist committed to self-improvement and prepared to take instructions and fulfil CQC training requirements you will achieve. Individuals will have a clear understanding of their competency levels and confidence levels through participation and pitting themselves against enemy party on course. Instructors will certainly know exponents capabilities competency and commitment levels by mid-course.

This Todd Group exported circuit of courses included a 20 exponents security protective course in Phuket before a week long CQC course in Germany and then the Thai Navy base CQC course.

Course circuits are hectic schedules with doing advances for upcoming courses working with associates on products developments as well as course management and course conducting duties including conducting phase tests if there are worthy and willing candidates.

The Todd Group run at capacity schedules with courses confirmed up to several years out. ost of our contract courses provision is restricted and not public.

This course being conducted at a Thai Navy base allows for exponents and instructors to live CQC and related subjects day and night with the barracks being right on the beach and beside the training area.

The Todd Group Brain to Boot mental toughness program was instructed on course along with an introduction to the D-WAR declare war against rape package.

The most current detainee handling tactical control and restraint primary practices were instructed to all phases of training.

The phase 3 proponents training including the military group training in phase 3 was conducted in a restricted access area.

The Todd Group phase 3 proponents trained in armed and unarmed combat throughout the week as well as performing instructing duties.

The combined civilian phase 3 proponents and Thai military pers restricted access phase 3 specialist CQC training focused on CQB skill at arms training.

The course underwent firearms safe handling and range orders instruction as well as an introduction to the fundamentals of marksmanship in preparation for a visit to the range on day 5 of the course.

It was apparent that the phase 1 exponent levels were below requirements for testing and this was confirmed on day 5 after returning from the range when CQC stands were conducted to determine competency confidence and commitment levels.

Common sense prevailed and exponents listened to instructor’s evaluations as well as understanding through participation just where they were at.

There was no day 6 phase test and this was the right decision.

The one female on the phase 1 basic course showed good commitment and a willingness to get in there and use her the skills.

Mechanically restrained toughener training.

While outside military courses CQC does not attract large numbers of females, the female exponents that we do attract prove to be high level competency exponents. After all, dirty tricks and battle proven skills and tactics that could not be contested in gender or weight categories provide a primary means of threat neutralisation and give the underdog the best combative chance of winning against the odds.

Post-course was taken up with meetings for upcoming courses in South East Asia as well as CQC training equipment evaluation and design.

There will also be weekend courses conducted in other European countries towards the end of 2016, details to be finalised and released.

Some of the comments from attendees recent courses circuits included: “This is nothing like the civilian self-defence courses I have attended and the skills are nothing like the martial arts and combat sports techniques I learnt on such courses.”

“This is a complete system that is based on the same principles and when you get the principles it enables you to learn other skills sets with in the systems with ease.”

“I have never been trained by any other training provider that has trained the military and civilians for so long and has instructors that were trained by some of the legends of armed forces hand to hand combat past and present.”

This has been a long circuit and now it’s time for a quick turnaround and off to conduct the annual Auckland CQC course which is a full muster.

There are two more open application courses set down for Thailand in 2016, one CPP close personal protection course and a final CQC course.
