I get a lot of questions in relation to the execution of stamp kicks and the following is some of the reasoning behind the employment of military leg stamp and oblique stamp kicks.
Military stamp kicks target the knee joint or immediately below the knee joint on the shin primarily to hyperextend the leg or for specific purposes by flexion at the rear of the knee joint. The shin scraping aspect is just a result of the sole of the boot contacting and sliding down the shin to the arch of the foot when the stamp kick has failed to hyperextend of flex the knee joint.
Hyperextension is to destroy the integrity of the knee joint and or knee cap and ligaments decentralising and incapacitating the target.
The Leg stamp is executed with the sole of the boot keeping the tibia and fibula ankle joint and tarsal bones of the foot all in their normal resting position alignment.
The fibula supports the muscles in the lower leg and ankle supporting balance and stability.
The tibia forms the flexible of the ankle joint in conjunction with the tarsal bones of the foot.
The combat boot provides robust foot protection but to maximise safety all bones need to be naturally aligned and the stamp kick is executed with a hard leg in relation to the joints being rigid and tensed for contact impact.
Military leg stamps are directed on approximately a 45 degree angle with contact on or below the knee cap right through the knee joint to the ground.
The arch of the boot encapsulates the point of contact on or below the knee cap to reduce target slip.
The kick is driven right through the lower leg to the ground and the stability leg trailing boot slides forward immediately post stamp kick.
Military unarmed offensive assaults are initiated from extremely close ranges and must maximise body weight and momentum by going right through the targeted limb.
Terrain considerations must be taken into account such as slippery uneven soft or sandy surfaces.
Military CQC as a primary practise with unarmed offensive assault must achieve and maintain forward momentum and kicks are not retracted kicks as this provides enemy recovery time.
The stamp kick comprises of a highly committed sliding into range action and a heavily committed stamping action right through the lower leg to the ground like breaking a piece of firewood with the boot.
Battle dress, webbing, combat vests, and body armour, as well as loading bearing packs fit well with committed forward to close range through target stamp kicks over flick extension retraction kicks where the body weight is suspended on one leg for a longer execution time.
Oblique kicks utilise the arch of the boot through the knee joint to the ground.
The skills depicted in military instructors civilian publications in World War II generally depicted only individual stamp kick executions over on courses instructed complete tactical executions used in military close quarters combat including all set up execution and follow up contingency skills..
Boots are for combat and bare feet are for bathing. One of my sayings and entries in the do’s and don’ts of close combat little gem of a book.
The confidence the boot sole provides enables highly committed stamp kicking.
Think of it like breaking a piece of firewood with your barefoot in comparison to the sole of a combat boot.
The effect is increased by considerable by means of the combat boot and injury reduced to the maximum.
