I’ve been training in the Todd Group curriculum for several years with a long-time member and exponent in the Wellington region. I’d heard & read of CQC exponents who hadn’t trained for a while, that being months or maybe many years reverting to their training when the situation required. I had a situation when overseas for a couple of years (away from training) when crossing the road and stepping up onto the pavement, my foot caught the paving flagstone and the next thing I know I’m falling headfirst into the pavement. I was approximately 10 inches from smashing my head onto the ground when suddenly I subconsciously reacted by turning my head and shoulder in and performed a combative forward roll finishing in a knelling position. I can absolutely say the training saved me from serious head injuries and that what I had read & heard about training recall is true. I’ve been over the incident in my mind many times and I’m still amazed by the recall. I’d just like to thank the Toddgroup & depot instructor for the high quality & realistic training.
