2019 Phase 2 Advanced CQC Course Exported to Thailand the Todd Group International Hub Country

Thailand CQC

The 2019 Phase 2 advanced exponent’s course also included two phase three proponents undertaking phase 2 instructor qualification training.

In 2018 a decision was made to accommodate the course away from the training camp facilities in camp accommodation and transport them out and back each day.

This proved to be a good change and was repeated for this phase 2 course in 2019.

Being accommodated in the city enabled exponents and instructors to take in some of the culture of Thailand and do any shopping without having to stay on additional days after the course ended.

For this to work all attendees must be responsible and committed to both the training course of instruction required demeanour and conduct themselves as quietly confident respectful course members outside of training.

This as expected proved to again be the case with all exponents and instructors on course conducting themselves in the required and expected manner.

The increased applications and members course confirmations has made it possible to conduct standalone single phase of training small group specialist courses of instruction.

Mil CQC training for civilians is a privilege and not a given right and is not just a matter of applying or course confirming and being accepted as all exponents must be accepted based on their maturity integrity and responsibility.

The Navy base sea breeze made training that much more comfortable than courses conducted inland like previous courses conducted in jungle camps.

It was still warm to hot with the occasional tropical rain shower which made some of the training demanding and fatiguing.

Focusing on just a single phase of training makes the course conducting and delivery that much more easy and provides maximum training time.

One small group course of instruction is a better option over three groups of different phases of training being conducted simultaneously in separate training areas for as many as 30 or more exponents.

Phase 2 advanced requires 400 mandatory training hours prior to volunteering for phase 2 testing.

There were two eligible candidates on this course of instruction for phase 2 testing but as the week progressed both the candidates and instructors realised that testing was not going to be undertaken on this course.

The course kicked off with mil ground decentralisation recovery and counter actions and later ground combat offensive escape actions combined with threat neutralisation.

There is a high emphasis on enemy techniques prevention rather than compromised escape and some preventative skills required phase 1 Basic skills revision.

The preventative modules enabled the combatant to neutralise close quarters threats by the use of European military dirty tricks brigade armed and unarmed options tactics and skills.

The phase 2 advanced training package includes extensive modules on ground combat, battlefield takedowns, strangulation and choking as well as wide ranging phase 2 advanced military self-defence training.

Combating unarmed and armed enemy pers disarming edged, bludgeon, flail and thrown weapons were included in the program later in the week.

Coming to the aid of a victim and methods and means of breaking up a confrontation from Todd Group crowd combat modules were also included in the mil self-defence package.

Near the weeks end was the amphib military self-defence and military close quarters combat undertaken in the warm sea waters of Sattahip.

There was also a half day of familiarisation with aimed and instinctive point shooting that was optional for the attendees to undertake.

The Todd Systems of phase 2 and phase 3 are restricted content training and there are no written or video released material available on these restricted training modules.

The only exception is with content that is required by exponents proponents and instructors of all phase of training for working in security or close personal protection.

This content includes law enforcement defensive tactics, detainee handling/control and restraint and firearms safety and competency.

There were two female exponents on this course of instruction, which is unusual at a phase 2 advanced level, however of recent we have had more females course joining.

Both these female exponents were committed to their training and advancement with one of them who had never before handled a firearm proving herself especially in the single-handed point shooting with good accuracy.

The military Thai cuisine was, as always, well received and the course enjoyed the Thai culture and were well looked after in country by the mil pers facilitators and Todd Group in country staff.

The final day of training was conducted under tropical rain conditions, but that did not deter the enthusiasm and commitment of completing the course program.

The course as always were shown around the city so they could take in some of the sights experience the culture and do their necessary shopping.

Then it was into the advance organisation of the October close personal protection course and the November phase 3 specialist course.

The close personal protection course is conducted in both New Zealand and Thailand in order to provide an international long-haul flight travel experience for the course.

The phase 3 specialists course this year will be conducted at several different military camps and will be a combined civilian and military cross-fertilisation allied pers training experience.

The phase 3 specialist proponents on this course will get to see a considerable amount of the country of Thailand travelling between bases as well as training different services.

While we were conducting this course in Thailand the training team back at Todd Group HQ have been getting ready for the final HQ intake induction for 2019.

You would be hard pressed to find any other training organisation that has the history and lineage in European military armed and unarmed combat of the Todd Group with our 92 year history of conducting military unarmed combat and military self-defence courses not only to the military but also for responsible committed civilians.

We conduct national and exported international courses of instruction all year round and run at capacity schedules.

From contract work to public intensive week-long courses of instruction as well as advanced and specialist courses of instruction for those that have accepted the challenges of testing and qualified for next level training, there simply are not enough weeks in the year to meet the demand.

The Todd Group is also actively involved with the design, development and manufacture of CQC training equipment and weapons.

We are a full-time mil CQC/MSD tradecraft mil training provider active in all aspects of our mil CQC/MSD tradecraft.

Setting high standards for course joining combined with demanding testing as well as strict and to the point CQC code of conduct contracts is essential in the provision of such specialist and unique training for civilian enthusiasts.

While there are, many martial arts-based self-defence styles available for civilians to train in our serious committed civilian enthusiasts join up to be trained by our headquarters with its unequalled history as a private specialist training organisation to the military and civilian sector.

Those that have an interest in the history and lineage of military qualified instructors providing the most current military CQC/MSD training find everything they seek training under the Todd Group.

While it may not be for those that are not up to accepting the challenges of mil CQC training and the hard heavy and hostile testing regime, it is expected by those that understand what true military close quarters combat training and testing is all about.

The lads and lasses on this exported advanced course of instruction all understood and accepted the training requirements with an uncompromising commitment to self-improvement and advancement.

They understand that there are no soft easy options and to be best prepared to deal with the realities of violent threats they must be familiar with such realities and inoculated against the effects of close quarters contact and have the best means of threat neutralisation.

Nothing is guaranteed, but the reality is if the most current best of battle proven dirty tricks brigade practices will not neutralise a formidable enemy, then lesser means and methods stand little or no chance of achieving the objective of quick quiet and a safe as possible threat neutralisation.
