Thailand Phase 2 Advanced Course 2024

Sharp Hard and Hot Intensive CQC Course

Late May/early June Todd Group Thailand summer Phase 2 Advanced Close Quarter Combat (CQC)/Military Self defense (MSD) course at the Todd Group stand-alone close combat training facility.

The training included advanced threats neutralisation and improvised weapons to save oneself under dire and deadly threats/assaults.

There is no art or sport when it comes to our European mil CQC/MSD and the modus operandi behind the primary skills is to arm even the underdog with capabilities to stop an over dog assaulter in their tracks by foul means.

This is what attracts the practical realists we train on grueling courses of instruction and testing phases where more can fail than pass and sometimes all can fail.

They want mil CQC trade-craft training the mil CQC way and if they don’t then they are making a big mistake applying.

The bastardisation hard, heavy, and hostile ethos and mil CQC course conducting methods of delivery and rank structure are all about ensuring exponents know their place and status and can be trained from the ground up. Including, if required, being broken down identifying their inadequacies and how little they actually know before starting with a clean slate and building them up as formidable combatants armed with the most current primary skills sets.

If they can’t take orders and follow instructions then our mil CQC for responsible civilian enthusiasts is not for them.

The modus operandi of battle field threat neutralisation starts from the ground with boots that are CQC weapons made in close combat that produce debilitating injuries.

While hard types may well be able to handle unarmed contact the realities are very different with hard, sharp, or hot armed options when used to put a stop to hostilities in a very deliberate manner.

Mental toughness is most important and our Brain to Boot mil close combat package is the most important attribute of a formidable combatant.

Gross motor skills, over kill employments keep it simple and are as proven as it gets. This is what practical types thrive on.

They understand how a goal driven, aggressive, highly trained enemy must be ravaged until they are a threat no more by best of battle proven deadly and foul means of putting a definite end to enemy capabilities.

This high temperature course did not deter exponents from committing to objective achievement.

From hard and hostile unarmed combat to sharp edged weapon disarming through to improvised hot foul means of immediate threat neutralisation the course kept the small group of committed exponents involved in wide ranging and diverse methods of fast and effective threat neutralisation.

Intensive Camp Todd, Todd Group HQ, and exported courses identify those that are confident, committed individuals as well as being prepared to maintain themselves as an equal as part of a close training group.

We conduct our intensive one week and two week long courses similarly to the way we have conducted our military courses and this demands exponents and proponents to respect the chain of command, take orders and instructions, and conduct themselves as quietly confident and committed individuals and as equal status team members.

Their previous backgrounds, experience, and grades are not relevant or recognised as they are all equals in training to achieve competency in the same skills sets that they have not yet proven themselves in.

Uniformity and a quietly confident and committed attitude in pursuit of achievement is what matters more than anything else.

Show ponies, wannabes, and anyone that thinks they are better or more important than anyone else on course will self-identify and self-destruct.

The close in close combat means there is nowhere to hide in training or under testing and every weakness and character trait will be identifiable by the instructing team.

Those that are disruptive or attempt to cause dissention in the ranks will be met with proven processes to sort the errors of their ways or disciplinary action including being removed from the course.

Serious exponents with the smarts do not want training disruption by disruptive types and do not want to jointly as a group have to be punished for what they do and certainly would never put their membership at risk for a rogue type if they have the smarts dedication and commitment.

The reality is many think as a civilian mil CQC/MSD is for them but are all too accustomed to a very different regime and cannot handle being an equal in a training environment where there is no favouritism, no backhand salutes, and where all that is important is their demeanor, attitude, and their on-course performance. They all sign up as individuals, must test as an individual, and must face the facts when it comes to their actions, attitudes, and behaviour as an individual.

The regime does not favour disadvantage or prejudice anyone but does insist on selfless unity commitment and for all to conduct themselves with in the CQC code of conduct.

Everyone on course/training joins knowing that as a civi training in our mil close combat and mil self-defence is a privilege and not a given right.

Those that are precious, woke, full of their own self-importance, and cannot conform to the training and testing regimes will not be tolerated.

Two eyes, two ears, and one mouth as the old adage goes and as such all on course need to look and listen twice as much as they talk.

Intensive training courses and especially exported training courses that put everyone in a very different environment to what they are accustomed to identify much about exponents attributes.

The provided training environments and regime which is what the practical realists expect and thrive under accepting the challenges and letting their actions and attitudes speak for themselves.

Having our own Thailand stand-alone training site, as well as maintaining access to satellite training facilities for various specialist tradecraft training, makes our international hub country of Thailand a top training experience for visiting NZ and global European military armed and unarmed combat enthusiasts.

The warm seawater temperatures for amphib CQC/MSD training and the country of Thailand being somewhat central in relation to global travel distances, compared to having to travel from the other side of the world down under to New Zealand for our trade-craft training, makes sense financially and also climate wise.

Phase 2 advanced has a minimum of 400 mandatory training hours before volunteering for testing. As such, testing has proven to achieve an above average to excellent level of competency across the wide ranging skill sets included in the phase 2 advanced package.

The course kicked-off with up skilling in the most current Phase 1 Basic primary tactics and skills training as the practices/principles are the foundations of Phase 2 Advanced and Phase 3 Specialist skills employments.

It is essential that Phase 2 Advanced and Phase 3 Specialist exponents and proponents respectively are current in Phase 1 Basic primary practices tactics and skills.

All phases of the Todd systems of military self-defence and military armed and unarmed combat share commonality and as such are cohesive in employment making upskilling fast and retention levels high.

The systems training packages for tactics and skills are continuously assessed to ensure the best primary means and methods of threat neutralisation are delivered.

The close combat trade craft training must be a living, evolving trade-craft to meet enemy and threat changes by staying ahead of them.

Exponents, proponents, and instructors cannot be at their best if they are not armed with the most current primary tactics and skills.

Being a same/similar European mil trade-craft is most important as the same system/similar skill sets can be applied in combination much more fluidly and with less hesitation and momentum reduction.

The environment is very important to training in our European military close quarters combat and nothing is better than training in the outdoors terrain the skills were developed for.

Thailand is having a blistering summer with very high temperatures but the exponents on course managers themselves including their hydration well under the summer sun and heat.

The amphib training in the ocean started before sunrise on day six and was a nice change from the hot and dry land-based training.

The camaraderie, hard talk, and positive bastardisation goes hand-in-hand with our hard, heavy, and hostile CQC training regime. Society may have changed but the reality is that close quarters combat battlefield actions on and criminal violent assaulters need to be stopped in their tracks and the best way to do this is by best of dirty tricks brigade military armed and unarmed combat.

Serious, committed exponents and proponents attend as many courses as they can to get their hours up to achieve high level competency and proficiency preparing themselves for the arduous phase 2 advanced testing.

They know when they are ready, simply because they understand the skills titles and terminology and can undertake instructions rapidly performing their phase 2 advanced skills with controlled aggression in seamless employments without fault. If they cannot determine their level of competency in regard to being best ready and prepared for testing they are not ready.

Having the in country logistics, airport transfers, daily transport from our group stay accommodation to and from our Todd Group Thailand training facility, along with the advantages of in country costs being extremely reasonable, are good incentives for dedicated close combat enthusiasts to attend our Thailand conducted courses.

Our in country indigenous assets make courses conducted in Thailand that much more user-friendly. From translation to logistics, transport and accommodation, and servicing the courses every need, along with assistance with seeing the sights and shopping for gifts, our in-country people are very important so exponents on courses only need to focus on their training with all their non-training requirements being taken care of for them.

The lads on this course enjoyed the culture and cuisine of Thailand as well as sharing downtime together looking around and eating out.

The core phase 2 advanced tradecraft training of battlefield takedowns and battlefield ground combat combined with detainee handling and strangulation and choking need to be first learnt in part, and then in full before being employed to neutralise a wide range of specific categories of threats under varied situations.

The skill sets’ set up, initiation, and execution strategies and full employment contingencies need to be squared away with attention to detail focused on and said skills major and minor components practiced at slow time, under low intensity until proficiency is achieved. Then the speed and intensity can be increased in regards to the exponents levels of competency.

The phase 2 advanced military self-defence is more high risk, threats specific and more specialised than the MSD skills of Phase 1 Basic that are for neutralising common threats predominantly of an individual assaulter type. Phase 2 advanced MSD requires exponents to learn the principles of combating/countering specific higher risk categories of threat, including protecting others under threat and dealing with crowd combat. They are instructed in how to read and understand situations and how to make correct, smart assessment decisions and adjustments to deal with variants and changes at real time not only in regard to category of threat but also threat specifics and dynamics.

Enemy positions, ranges, formations, movements/actions are all factored into the principle based means of threat neutralisation decision making.

Phase 2 advanced includes dealing with multiple assaulters, armed and unarmed, and also effectively coming to the aid of others under assault/threat and crowd-combat/confrontation breaking.

The constant resistance and yielding, expedient movements, covering ground, evasion and escape, holding ground and recovering of ones footing under such high temperatures would have sapped the exponent’s physical capabilities if they had not understood the importance of controlled aggression and the maintaining of physical output capabilities by means of controlled respiration, controlled output and staying hydrated.

The outdoors training site provided shade and shelter helping in reducing the effects of such high temperatures and bright sunlight. But the nature of Phase 2 Advanced CQC with so much decentralisation and hard boots footing recovery and enemy party required resistance and expedient covering of ground makes it demanding and energy draining.

They all understand what Harry Baldock our founder meant when he said training is a project to be continued not a task to be completed and you are only as good as you are current and committed in your skills capabilities.

Some courses will soon be strictly available to Todd Group members only, so it is important to read the course application in full.

Another exported course completed. Back to HQ, and a very different climate, for HQ courses, training and intakes before heading to Europe for a full muster course.
