Kapiti Annual CQC Weekend Course 2021

October 30-31, 2021 was a good training experience for mil close combat enthusiasts in the lower North Island.

Brent’s Kapiti depot again provided an environment fitting for close quarter’s combat training.

This was a full muster of current and new training members.

There were a constant volume of applicants and inquiries over the last six months but as usual some did not have the commitment to complete joining requirements and others did not meet course joining conditions.

The Todd Group have managed to complete every scheduled course in 2021 even under Covid conditions and this has been made possible by our uncompromising commitment to ensuring we make every effort to provide HQ and exported courses so dedicated members and serious new entry training exponents have continuous training access.

This is made possible by being a full time training provider that has flexibility in our training schedules. We have established our unequalled status in European military CQC over more than nine decades establishing the resources and people on the ground to support and facilitate our full schedule of annual HQ Camp Todd and exported courses.

The Kapiti weekend kicked off with an introduction to our Brain to Boot CQC/MSD mental toughness package.

The most current long and close range unarmed offensive assault tactics and skills were next on the program.

The stamp kicks introductory training included familiarisation with heavy boot contact wooden targets destruction.

This course included instructors from Kapiti, Foxton and Paraparaumu and exponents from Tauranga down to Wellington.

These weekend short courses are not only important for recruiting new exponents but also for ensuring our regional depot instructors can be hands on privy to the most current primary trade-craft practices.

Our European mil CQC/MSD are living progressive trade-craft skill sets that evolve with changing threats and trends to provide our best and most current threat neutralisation capabilities.

The Kapiti course had phase 1 basic and phase 2 advanced exponents on course along with phase 3 specialist proponents and instructors.

Phase 1 basic and phase 2 advanced courses of instruction were conducted separately and simultaneously.

The weekend course included unarmed counter offensive assault skills as well and MSD military self-defence threat neutralisation to combat and counter armed and unarmed threats.

There was also an introduction for female exponents on primary D-WAR (declare war against rape) counter sexual violence tactics and skills.

Being off of the grid in the great outdoors at Brent’s Kapiti depot provided a realistic outdoors training environment.

Exponents all applied themselves to the training with quiet commitment to upskilling inside their individual levels of capability which is what we want and expect on weekend and weeklong courses of instruction.

Attending instructors were able to have their questions answered in regards to newly introduced skills as well as primary trade-craft tactics and skills.

Adjustments and variations in skills execution in regards to varied and changing threats and situations are important to instructors that are committed providing their exponents with best capabilities and this is what sees our depot instructors regularly attending courses.

Even though we had more than enough open training ground surrounded by dense bush land and trees as far as the eyes could see the C in close quarters combat became very apparent to attendees especially when it came to the skills execution ranges from just outside arms reach to body contact range.

Brent, Rachel and Billie were as always great hosts and facilitators taking care of all our needs making the training experience a pleasure.

Intensive courses provide not only a top training experience but also an opportunity to find out about the Todd Groups longest history and second to none instructors lineage in our field of expertise.

There were wide ranging and varied questions asked on mil CQB/CQC instructors including our founding and allied Master-Instructors from previous generations.

There were briefs on our history, lineage the skills and reasoning behind the tactics and skills delivered throughout this short course.

It is very important that exponents, proponents and instructors know of the long and deep lineage and commitment to our trade-craft as well as those that have been important to the Todd Group from yester-year.

There are many benefits to attendance on intensive courses but none more important than participation in the learning of our best of proven skills to arm attendees with increased self-protection capabilities.

Training attendees come for military close quarters combat and military self-defence training and as such are similar in their in mentality and reasons for attending our courses.

Many attend for upskilling for career roles reasons while others want to be able to best protect themselves and their family and friends.

It is not the sport or art they seek but the mil CQC and MSD as they know dirty tricks brigade means and methods equate to their best chance of stopping an over-dog aggressor in their tracks.

Every course identifies new exponent enthusiasts one at a time and this weekend course was no exception.

These courses have been the start for many top exponents that have made it up through the ranks as specialist proponents and instructors.

There is no better means of identifying promising exponents than on intensive courses of instruction.

We will soon set dates for the 2022 Kapiti course and now it’s onto the last quarter Todd Group HQ courses for 2021.
