Another weekend short course of instruction completed at Camp Todd and a full schedule of courses and HQ training for the last quarter of 2021.

This specialist short course of defensive tactics was a full muster of committed lads and lasses.

The course content included military law enforcement and security tactics and skills of self- protection and defensive tactics including subject extractions control containment restraint and movement.

Attendees were instructed in the application of a range of mechanical restraints as well as were shown how to make improvised mechanical restraints.

Initially the skills were individually practiced then in team applications.

Training camps conducted at Camp Todd and Todd Group HQ allow for maximum training time and this is important to the achievement of highest levels of competency possible.

Some specialist trade-craft subject courses such as our two-week long close personal protection courses and defensive tactics primary practices courses require block courses training to achieve at minimum an enabling level of confidence and competency.

Attending one or two hour training sessions weekly or periodically would take months or years just to undergo basic training skills and then there is the skills fade negative aspects of less than a complete basic or advanced course of instruction in the specific trade craft subject.

In-camp courses promote individual self- improvement as well as team competencies capabilities with attendees having to work at objective achievement in small groups using group tactics and team skills employments.

Extensive courses of instruction also enable the delivery of not only primary practices but also secondary alternative and emergency/contingency methods of objective achievement.

In my over 45 years as an exponent, proponent and instructor I have been trained or trained with some leading military elite Master Instructors as well as law-enforcement defensive tactics instructors and this has provided a major knowledge of different and diverse tactics and skills of fellow instructors from different countries and services.

On this DT weekend course attendees were privy to some such different means and methods of objective achievement including wide range a variety of mechanical restraints skills from different allied instructors to their military and police in their countries.

The right tools for the specific task and duties makes safe and effective objective achievement more probable and arms pers with increased capabilities to deal with wide ranging and varied threat situations including changes in threat situation where contingency options are required to maintain momentum and control of the situation.

We predominantly in-house recruit for our special short courses and even with the border restrictions where global depot instructors and members are not able to attend Todd Group HQ and Camp Todd courses, we still have the numbers of NZ based instructors, proponents and exponents that make conducting such specialist short courses possible.

The lockdown has increased interest in attending upcoming courses from new entry exponents by considerable and we will start the final HQ intake for 2021 this week.

With group training applications for 2021 being closed off we are getting more and more applications for individual tuition or family/small group training by arrangement.

There is no other mil CQC/MSD training provider in Dunedin so the demand is increasing for our services as it is throughout NZ and overseas.

Mil self-defence and mil CQC are living progressive trade-craft practices that we continuously evaluate in regards providing the safest and effective means of threat neutralisation.

Attendees on this weekend DT course all commented on how they had learnt new skills that they had never seen before.

This is good reasoning for serious members to stay current by always remembering mil CQC/MSD is a task to be continued not a project to be completed.

The camaraderie and excellent training environment made for a top training weekend finished off with a post course dinner and watching Alex Volkanovski successfully defend his UFC title and Dan Hooker have a solid win in his fight.

To provide the best training it needs to be a full-time professional operation with custom set up and kitted out training facilities and this is something that we have always provided right back to our establishment in 1927.

There is no part-time when it comes to the instruction of primary practices military close combat training it must be a full time commitment.
