The training year after lockdown is not only back but back with vengeance.
We have upcoming HQ and Camp Todd military self-defence and military unarmed combat short and intensive courses for civilians as well as exported courses and close personal protection specialist International courses coming up.
The Phase 1 Basic HQ exponents that did not get to finish the annual International course at Camp Todd because of the lockdown will get to complete the training and testing now that we are back conducting courses.
D-WAR (declare war against rape courses) and DT (defensive tactics courses) are scheduled in the upcoming months.
The lock down time for us was very busy indeed with having to officially postpone courses and set new dates for conducting them.
This more than doubled the work load for every reassigned course with having to set new dates undertake the planning and facilitation again and get our courses coordinators and managers make new arrangements as well as make sure previous accepted attendees were still available and undertake new recruiting drives.
We are fortunate to have a network of loyal and dedicated instructor’s exponents and courses coordinators and facilitators that all assisted with the increased work load requirements of rescheduling.
The only issue now is our new international hub country facility in Thailand in regards to when the borders will be opened and conditions will be suitable for international attendees to travel there for training.
We have had a lot of inquiries for training at the new facility from the article on CQC Times.
The training facilities and training simulators have proven to attract a lot of interest from serious individuals and clients.
It is truly a major development second to none in private CQC training provision and we are still developing it further during the lock down.
The ranges were completed while I was there conducting training in March.
I have never seen a private training facility set up like our Thailand International hub country facility.
There are onsite staff taking care of the facility and continuing to develop it to ensure it will be ready for us to get back into conducting courses as soon as we can.
Every day of the lockdown all Todd Group members received members updates that included advice on using lock down time positively, training programs for PT and CQC as well as on-line tests to take on CQC/MSD to keep them current.
We included subject matter from our archives dating back to our pioneer experts predecessors.
There was a lot of interest in former bareknuckle fighter’s unlicensed fighters and street fighters and we included some of the best of our archives features on them.
These updates inclusions led to comment and questions on instructors that have never proven themselves for real in street fights or in close quarters combat actions on and how with social media and people wanting to make a name for themselves they are likely putting themselves out there and could end up getting challenged to proof themselves.
This really got the wannabe and make believe subject going and proves those that have proven themselves in real dog eat dog fights don’t take kindly to make believers.
There have been requests for pieces on wannabes and those that are persona non-grata through their actions.
I will cover this subject matter in upcoming releases but for now need to get on with the recruiting vetting and courses advance work as courses conducting is already back and at full tilt.
There was material on wide ranging threat neutralisation and how to make training equipment at home.
I reminded those that inquired that without the armed forces military service in front of qualifications the instructor is not military qualified and without military in front the promotional terminology warry words the training is not military.
To use such terms when it is not military official training would be found out right away and the negative attention would right the wrong.
Members requested updates subject matter and their requests were wide ranging and made for diverse subject matter content.
There were requests on combat sports and PT that Caleb our Combat Sports School head coach wrote on, that members were very appreciative of.
Caleb’s charges include the current heavy weight and super heavy weight Greco Roman wrestling Champs.
There is an update on these solid wrestlers on CQC Times cqctimes.com
The updates and rescheduling combined with projects work and projects completion made for full and long days and we got through a lot of the back log of work that had built up with decades of continuous courses advance work and courses and conducting.
We received a lot of training inquiries from people seeking military self-defence and military unarmed combat training and most of them had done their research and knew exactly what they wanted and who they wanted to be trained by.
We have commenced new national and regional training provision initiatives that are now underway and getting excellent responses.
Having a central city HQ facility and a major training camp here in Dunedin enables us to accommodate wide ranging training provision.
We can have over 100 pers on courses at Camp Todd if required.
Weekend courses for Dunedin and lower South Island new entry exponents are now being promoted with hundreds of people interested in what we have to offer.
We are recruiting those serious about European mil CQC/MSD from around the regions and conducting introductory training at Todd Group HQ and Camp Todd as well as around NZ at our regional depots.
From these training blocks those that are identified as solid exponents with the mental toughness and the smarts will be invited to undertake intensive courses of instruction and testing.
Making the requirements and regime strict and to the point with a definite hands on pathway to achieve testing phases passes and instructor quals sets and maintains the highest standards.
There is no other way to prove candidates worth other than hands on in a hard heavy and hostile manner.
You can’t develop combative competency and intestinal fortitude under adversity over the internet or from a book or DVD or by thinking about how good you are in the theory of a subject that is all about achieving objectives and neutralising real threats.
Being the only training provider of our European mil self-defence and mil unarmed combat packages to responsible civilians combined with our longest history as private specialist training providers of our skills sets equates to a lot of interest and considerable admin planning and facilitation requirements.
The lock down also provided the opportunity to get work completed on new website design and update IP and training insurance requirements.
Some may forget about the importance of paying the taxman and having insurance cover but need to know there are two things that are guaranteed as the saying goes, death and taxes and course fees means tax liabilities.
For those that are not full time but have other employment there is secondary tax payment realities.
Injuries or death in training means inquiries and self-proclaimed experts need to prove their qualifications including trade-craft safety practices.
You will have read by now the interest in training provider integrity honesty and the importance of instructors having real life experience.
I have had to answer a lot of questions on such subject matter and will include some of them in upcoming blogs and the CQC Q&A.
Feel free to keep the questions coming.
We have finished the design prototypes and testing phases for our freestanding rebounding heavy bag and are ready to go to production with pre-orders already received.
The tuffnor under the last 2 years of testing has stood up to the punishment admirably and we just had to research materials to get the price down while offering a robust serious bit of kit.
We ended up getting the base until plastic moulded and this has cut down on the weight for freighting while maintaining the toughness.
My next book is for children’s safety security and counter abduction and during the lock down we have got it close to the final editing stage and then it will be sent to the publisher.
I have just been discussing taking up a role speaking about my trade-craft and am seriously considering doing so, which will provide even more scope for providing education on trade-craft subject matter.
The supplies arm of the group is very busy with everyone getting back into training and making up for lockdown lost time.
Fortunately before the lockdown we purchased another storage building and received a 40 foot container and as such have good stocks and have resupply shipment orders underway.
Being a full time specialist training provider that can provide days and evenings training for individuals and groups as well as being training kit designers and suppliers is most important to our trade-craft provision and for training resources supply.
It takes considerable financial sacrifices and uncompromising commitment and dedication combined with proven experience and expertise to lead in your field and that is what we have continued to do since 1927 when Harry Baldock established our specialist training provision.
You need to be full time fully committed with permanent custom purpose training facilities and most importantly have the qualifications expertise and hands on experience to lead in mil CQC and mil self-defence.
The lockdown has enabled us to get ahead and catch up and provide new training provision initiatives including expanding our Dunedin HQ and Camp Todd training provision services.
There is no substitute for anything less than the most current best of proven skills training delivered by highly trained tested and qualified Master-Instructor’s in military self-defence and military CQC when it comes to your self-protection safety and best chances of threat neutralisation.
In conclusion out of an unusual and difficult situation have come some excellent positives for our trade-craft training provision.
