This year has been a hectic year of NZ course conducting with the borders being closed and additional NZ courses being conducted.
Demand has exceeded available dates and available instructors by considerable and has resulted in a full schedule of home country courses.
There are many options for traditional fighting arts/martial arts and combat sports training in NZ but we are the only training provider of our European military elite CQC (close quarters combat and MSD (military self-defence) training.
Our courses are conducted by or under the control/command of a military elite qualified Master-Instructor and this has proven to be a major important consideration for serious exponents looking for military self-defence and CQC training.
We are coming up to our 100 years of mil CQC/MSD private specialist training provider celebrations in 2027. We are the oldest private specialist training provider of our European military CQC/MSD trade-craft training globally.
We conduct small group training and the course joining conditions and vetting requirements are strict and to the point.
It is the fraction of 1%ers that we are looking for that have what it takes to complete mandatory training hours and pass challenging testing phases required to join the ranks of our Phase 3 Specialist proponents.
Being accepted for joining is not a given right and comes with responsibilities.
Members must conduct themselves inside our CQC code of conduct and breaches can lead to the individual being binned.
The annual Auckland course attracted more advanced exponents and specialist proponents than basic level exponents in 2021.
It has taken nine decades to achieve full ranks of senior proponents and instructors as to achieve such training competency requires hundreds of hours of dedication to the trade-craft and commitment to on-going training and advancement.
The Auckland course like most Todd Group one and two week long intensive courses also includes assistant instructor and instructor qualification courses.
We had two such group members on the 2021 annual Auckland course.
The two phases of training being conducted were phase 1 basic and phase 2 advanced and they were conducted in separate training areas at Ludus Magnus in Auckland with the phase 2 advanced training being restricted with no access to anyone other than those that had earned the right and been accepted to attend along with instructors or instructor under assessment.
All phase 2 advanced and phase 3 specialist restricted training modules exclude public access and there are no manuals or video productions on these packages as exponents must earn the right to undergo such training.
It is our professional belief that it would not be responsible to release such skillsets to the general public.
We recruit on fact and not sensationalism and phase 1 basic content is what is available to accepted new entry level exponents.
We conduct training out of Ludus Magnus for members and accepted new applicant members.

We also have instructors on courses that are there to remain current or re-certify for their external employers requirements and this was the case on this Auckland annual course.
There was no phase 1 basic test conducted on this year’s annual Auckland course which is not uncommon on intensive courses of instruction.
Candidates must be of a high level of competency and commitment to volunteer for testing and be accepted for testing. There is no point in volunteering or accepting volunteers that are not fully competent and confident in the required skills.
The Todd Group HQ includes in our ethos the must for setting and maintaining the highest possible standards with no exceptions to the rule.
Everyone must be accepted for course joining, complete mandatory training requirements, volunteer for testing and pass testing proving themselves by surpassing the required confidence and competency high standards.
The 2021 Auckland course included video presentations, lectures and additional instruction in the medical aspects of CQC and our Brain to Boot mil self-defence and close quarters combat mental toughness enhancement package.
There was also a brief on our lineage and longest history in our trade-craft and on basic formula knife sharpening.
We have expanded our Auckland depots in the last year and will increase our Auckland recruiting over the next 12 months.
The inquiries were coming in constantly for training from throughout NZ while on the Auckland course and the upcoming Wellington weekend course that will be conducted at our Kapiti depot is receiving considerable interest.
The overseas requests for group and individual tuition training and training contract requests for when the borders re-open will make for full courses circuits for some years after the borders re-open.
The civilian courses and HQ training are very important for our mil close combat continuation/future-proofing and maintaining of primary trade craft practices as we are the developers and care-takers of the doctrine skills and training packages.
We have been the leading NZ training providers of our mil close combat and mil self-defence training for past 94 years and have an uncompromising commitment to our trade-craft and training provision roles and duties.
This is our field of expertise that we hone our skills in constantly and our leading civi instructors and proponents have thousands of training hours logged.
No one can be a leader in the our group with a lesser involvement or less than an uncompromising commitment to our trade-craft.
While history has seen in some instances military close combat being made dormant or training cells being disbanded and as a result with time such specialist expertise being lost, this being our life-time field of expertise means we are continuously working on maintaining a primary status and highest level of training provision availability in our most current skills sets.
Some train for the art or sport but for us it is the dirty tricks brigade combat that matters most.
The attendees were enlightened on the fact that technique prowess can be destroyed in an instant by means of dirty deadly armed or unarmed close combat.
Penetration or hard destructive contact impact can eliminate defensive or fight capability in the flash of a weapon.
The Auckland attendees were shown how an everyday improvised object could neutralise the most formidable foe and being able to access such improvised weapons, make them ready and employ them covertly increases one’s chances of defeating even over dog aggressors before they even know what has happened.
The course was introduced to the importance of combining the Brain to Boot mil mental toughness practices with their selected offensive and counter offensive skills to increase their chances of threat neutralisation.
Mental toughness and an uncompromising CQC mentality through enhanced intestinal fortitude is so important to objective achievement under threat and if exponents do not know how to overcome the effects of violent threats including sudden aggressive shock actions on they have lost before they start.
The week long Auckland course as previous was a top training opportunity for members and new members alike and the planning for next year’s course is already underway.
We have a defensive tactics course and close protection course coming up before the end of the year along with a Camp Todd/Todd Group HQ Phase 1 basic week long course and testing phase.
The final course for 2021 will be a phase 3 specialists short course.
We have many projects on the go and new products to be manufactured this year and next year including our own brand CQC training sneaky boots.
Being leaders in our field means we work full time at our specialist trade-craft and are involved in all aspects of our trade-craft which is a must to be a trade-craft leader.
We are the trade-craft experts and our understudies get their training from the source.
We develop the required training equipment and weapons and write the training manuals and provide the training resources.
Our training team is headed by a Military elite qualified Master-Chief Instructor and we have two assistant Master-Instructors at Todd Group HQ.
If you want to be trained under the command of a military elite Master-Chief instructor and be trained by our highly qualified training team instructors then apply but only apply if you are a practical realist committed to self-improvement and can take orders and instructions.
If you are not of integrity, reliable and responsible and are not prepared to provide full disclosure do not apply.
From the rest come the CQC best is an old and very true adage when it comes to the proving of first class proponents.
Another annual Auckland course completed and now it’s onto upcoming courses and visiting instructors and exponents training.
